Why we did it…

The idea behind #georgieandfriends mentorship series was to bring it back to the basics. What we mostly see online is highlights - and sometimes the journey of people we look up to has been summarized to a 10-second clip.

So the team and I thought, what would happen if those same mentors and a few young people got into a room to speak candidly and learn how to navigate "career choices", "rock bottom", "building a brand", "having a shelf-life" and more.

This was the first of many.

  • Believe it or not, imposter syndrome creeps up on everyone, whether an established professional, just starting off in your career or taking on a task such as public speaking. The first step is acknowledging it as a common experience and seeking support from trusted individuals. Reflect on your achievements, challenge negative thoughts, and prioritize self-compassion and growth. In the #georgiehosts masterclass, I give different examples where such self-doubt almost got the best of me. Feel free to also reach out via the contact box in case you’d like step-by-step assistance or guidance on the same.

  • To start with public speaking or moderating panels, work on immersing yourself in relevant communities, demonstrate your understanding of the subject matter, and express your interest to organizers or experienced moderators. Continuously refine your communication skills, embrace growth opportunities, and confidently offer your expertise to contribute effectively to discussions and events. That’s the short answer. For a detailed breakdown, the step by step guide is in the moderation masterclass.
